Catch the Wave

*** RANDOM BLOG WARNING ***

This is Aggressive Appliances related only to the extent that we have in-house Surfers.

Moving back to Florida has sparked in me a new zest for life. Surfing is at the top of my short list of new stuff to try. Fortunately, along with a hearty supply of knowledgeable appliance gurus, there are quite a few experienced surfers at Aggressive Appliances. One appliance-selling surfer has graciously offered to teach me how to surf (which might also be read as willing to watch me make a complete fool of myself….maybe?). I’m secure in my silliness, so game on!

JeffI’ve always loved balance and the ocean. The idea of being alone with the water, my thoughts, connecting in a solitary, profound way with nature, appeals a great deal to me. I’ve been warned about board burn and to have patience waiting for a good wave. We’ve discussed the worst things that could happen. I could knock myself unconscious with the board…..or….I could love it so much I’ll become an addict. Just in case I knock myself out I’ll have my medical insurance card on me. And what about sharks, guys?!?

Fast forward a couple of weeks…

I was caught up in watching others surf, playing in the waves sans board, and never did find my friend in the sea of people. I also lost a bit of my bravery watching the young kids on their boards. Maybe I’m just meant to watch and swim? Maybe shark bait isn’t my idea of a chance I want to take for right now. There’s no shame in that….But. Just in case. There is plenty of sunshine left as well as beach-worthy days if I should change my mind…

Whatcha Got Cooking?

bsh cREWThis week I was given the opportunity to fly to California for BSH immersion training. I’ve never been to California and haven’t been to an out-of-state product training in quite some time. I had no idea what to expect, who I’d meet, or how much I’d learn.

What I found in Cali was this…no matter where you go, or where people come from, good people are good people. The crew we had at this training was by far the best group of people I’ve ever had the pleasure of learning with. We laughed, we laughed harder, we cooked, we learned, and we made some really great friends that became more like family on this trip.

BSH 2There is something to be said for being able to cook on Bosch products surrounded by bright, funny, creative people. It also helps to have a professional chef explaining what to do. We used induction, gas, steam, convection, and learned all the different ways Bosch can really make a decadent meal fast, easy, fun, and exciting. The BSH group gave me the chance to try out one of my own family rice recipes to give me that final push to give up my aluminum pot and fully embrace induction cooking. My classmates enjoyed my dish (or they were just being kind) and I was sold on induction.

BSH 3We have many of these pieces on display at Aggressive. BSH provided us all with a steam cooking recipe book. I’m heading back to Florida today armed with a plan to try these recipes, along with my own, on our live appliances.

bsh 4I gained so much knowledge this week, but one of the most important things I took away from this trip was that there are great people that live all over the world, people that have so much to share and teach you, people passionate in their appliance geekiness and sillyness. I feel honored and privileged to have met them all. Special thanks to the BSH family for providing us this opportunity!!!

BSH Crew NightNow….come on down and let’s take my Bosch knowledge for a spin!!!! I’ll be steam/convecting goodies REAL soon…

Don’t play with your food!!!

It’s 6pm. You’re just getting home from a long day. Your kids, spouse, significant other, your pet, (insert other hungry mouth here), or just YOU are starving. Who has time to cook a healthy meal that will be tasty and quick? Apparently we do. It might even mean that everyone puts their smart phones down and *GASP* talk to each other over a meal. Imagine?!? That’s just what Subzero-Wolf is suggesting AND they say we can do it easily with just a little planning and foresight. Hmmmm, interesting…

We were told as children not to play with our food….and it seems to me this campaign is saying “Why not?!”

Subzero-Wolf, an elite line of cooking and refrigeration products, has nobly started their “Reclaim the Kitchen” campaign. Their concept is that we are spending more time buying meals outside of the home and not cooking for ourselves (true, true). Are we missing out on fun and nutrition when we pick fast food or take out? Who really likes that garbage anyway? I don’t see any hands up…roastedchickenwithnewpotatoesandasparagusSo what they are saying in a nutshell is taking a few extra minutes to go buy fresh, fun, colorful, healthy foods with (or without) company and head home to create a quick meal is actually doable? Yes! And…all the “chefs”, young, in-between, and old, may have the chance to talk, share, and create memories as well! Little ones, playing with food, filling their bodies and souls with a home cooked meal that they help create within reach. My reach. Yours. I’m not kidding. Teach them about nutrition and helpfulness while bonding over food? I’m definitely picking up what Subzero-Wolf is putting down. I can do this! I think you can, too!

And what about all you singles out there? Blast some music, break out the seasonings and get your creative side flowing. Cooking is an art and what better way to nourish your body and creative spirit than with a masterpiece you’ve whipped up either for yourself or for someone visiting?

As our lives get a little nuts we don’t have to sacrifice happy bellies OR play time with our food in the kitchen. Find your inner kid and get back to playing with your food.

Subzero-Wolf has happily cooked up a website here with easy, fast recipes and links that fit our fabulous lifestyles and insane schedules. And here’s the link of their press release on this awesome initiative in partnership with Chef Kathleen Flinn.

And by the way… if you click the “food on the table” pictures you’ll go right to their recipe link.
