Steam = Success !

(a “little” prior to 1980)

When Aggressive opened its doors in 1980, the microwave oven was cutting edge technology.
Since then, we’ve had a bunch of innovative cooking products introduced, some with success, others, not so much (a refrigerating range comes to mind).  In this brief article, let’s look at one of the great success stories, which in fact has become a whole new category of cooking products:  convection steam ovens.

These ovens not only work miracles with leftovers (revitalizing even pizza!), but they are the absolute healthiest way to cook vegetables; allowing them to retain 100% of their nutrients – nothing is lost. Convection steam as the name indicates is a combination of fan forced heat and steam acting on the food. Miele has a steam only product, but they also have a combi-steam which is more versatile.

At present we offer these products by Bosch, Gaggenau,Jenn-Air, Miele, Sharp, Thermador, Viking, and Wolf (alphabetical order).

The prices range from the lowest priced unit (Sharp) at $2,779, to the Gaggenau at $8,199.

Make a visit to our showroom to see
the wonders of the Steam Oven for yourself…we have many on display in our “live” kitchens.

Second Harvest…..Our Favorite Neighbor !

Remember the Mister Rogers Neighborhood song with the line….won’t you be my neighbor?   Well, if you clicked on the link, that song will be playing in your head for awhile…you’re welcome for the walk down memory lane of forgotten tv shows.

Our favorite neighbor is Second Harvest Food Bank. A few years ago, one of our customers invited me to a graduation for the Culinary Training Program at Second Harvest.  Since then, we have developed a partnership that has brought us great friends and experiences.

It has been wonderful over the last several years to learn about all the accomplishments of Second Harvest in the community….and even better, to be able to help spread the word, and educate others about this great organization.

We have enjoyed the talents of the chefs of Second Harvest, as well as the culinary students.  We often involve the students in our “food” events in the showroom….it is always our pleasure to have a small part in contributing to the culinary training program.
The Second Harvest Culinary Training Program provides qualified, at-risk and economically disadvantaged adults with the culinary and life skills training needed to pursue a sustainable career in the food industry.

Students enrolled in the program gain valuable “hands-on” experience learning in our production kitchen assisting in contract meal prep and catered events during their lab time with our team of award-winning chefs. The life skills component of our program prepares students for work-readiness, focusing on the importance of appropriate work behaviors, resumes and interviewing techniques, as well as household budgeting, stress relief, and time management.

Just last week a graduate of the program stopped by to say hello…one of my favorite things is getting to know these students, attend the graduations and hear that everyone has received employment or is in the process of interviewing for a job in the culinary field.
One of the latest groups we have had in the showroom is in the picture below, under the supervision of Chef Israel, serving great food for our customers and staff.

Here is a peek at the meal….

It goes without saying….we love great food and the people cooking, grilling, baking, sautéing, and preparing that food !

Another fun benefit of knowing our neighbor is participating in the Chef’s Night Dinners throughout the year.  Aggressive loves to sponsor a table and invite some lucky recipients to a fabulous evening right at Second Harvest….the most accomplished chefs in the area create an outstanding menu and they never disappoint.  Anyone can buy tickets to these events and help support the Culinary Training Program….simply go their website and check out all the ways you can be involved.

We recently attended a Chef’s Night just this month, Ruth’s Chris was in the house with their top chefs from around the state….the meal was perfect from the beginning appetizers, to the take home box of bread pudding…perfection !

In addition to getting food to families, children and seniors, Second Harvest has many services that benefit the community.

There is a beautiful Community Room available for rental,
a Catering Program, Distribution Center Training Program, Kids Programs, and too many services to list here.
Take a few minutes, go to their website and see for yourself how Second Harvest Food Bank is transforming lives, right in our own backyard.

It’s a good thing to be their neighbor.

Yes, we are an appliance store and we love to talk about and sell appliances….but, we also love our community and the people that use those appliances.   Thank you for letting us share about our neighbors.

Now we’re smokin’….with the Memphis Grill

Spotlight on Chef Kenny….

One of the perks of working and shopping at Aggressive Appliances is getting to sample and enjoy the food that passes through here.
We will be taking the opportunity to give a little attention to some of the talented chefs that have prepared some awesome meals in our showroom.

This month, let me introduce you to Kenny Kolaiah.
Kenny has been cooking and selling BBQ for the last 9 years and has gradually started doing small caterings like family reunions, parties, etc.  He was working full time with Orange County Public Schools and after working his business on the side, decided to quit his job and pursue a career change.  During the difficult time of trying to build his business, he hit a few bumps in the road and had to work odd jobs to make ends meet….at this time he discovered and applied for the Second Harvest Culinary Training Program.

4cf4fe54-314c-4c6d-afc8-f9992942c158Upon completing the program, he accepted a position at Isleworth Country Club and worked there for a year while building his catering business. He has been fortunate to be catering full-time for the last 3 years… Kolaiah’s Catering currently offers a variety of cuisines, full/drop off catering services, private chef, and volunteers to provide meals for the hungry every month.

Customers, and the team at Aggressive were recently treated to an awesome meal prepared by Kenny…a good old fashioned spread of barbeque and amazing sides.1187b48e-16dc-4d60-a30f-1d3ab054164f

It should always be National Grilled Cheese Month

We are not really sure who decides this, but April is National Grilled Cheese Month…we feel the only honorable thing to do is celebrate and embrace it.

In our showroom, our favorite way to make a grilled cheese sandwich is in the GE Monogram Advantium Oven.  We have a live unit in our Monogram kitchen and while this oven has many features and capabilities, you just can’t beat the way this oven makes an awesome grilled cheese.

5a0c4257-9be5-4b0c-b7dd-0b5f1d1d410a

Before we get to the food pictures, the Advantium Oven is in a class by itself…a brief description of its attributes are as follows:
–  Advantium technology harnesses the power of light.  The outside of the food is cooked like a conventional oven, with radiant heat produced by halogen bulbs above and below the food.  This halogen-produced heat receives a boost of microwave energy.
–  Foods brown and cook evenly and fast, while retaining their natural moisture.
–  Advantium offers 4 ovens in 1…..Speedcook, True European Convection, Sensor Microwave, and Warming/Proofing ovens…..and comes in several different configurations to fit any kitchen design.
–  Delivers oven-quality results 2 – 8 times faster that a conventional oven….no preheating required.

The Advantium Oven is offered across the GE lines of Monogram, Profile and Café…the differences have to do with whether the oven is installed as an over-the-range classification, built-in, or based on specifications regarding which voltage is required.  Here is a link to more info and specs on the GE Advantium Oven.

Now back to making an amazing grilled cheese sandwich…after all, there is a month dedicated to its awesomeness.

The Advantium gives you foolproof digital options to scroll through and find just the right selection to make your sandwich……

1e74f15d-769b-4475-b310-759320262768  There are far too many features and capabilities of this oven to be able to list here, stop by our showroom, let a sales associate demonstrate in our live kitchen and take one for a spin.  Several of our team members own one and are more than happy to sing its praises.

Duck, Duck, Chicken…..Goose Eggs !

It is Easter weekend and eggs are everywhere…..plastic eggs, colorful eggs, and boiled eggs.  Parents everywhere will be boiling eggs for their children to dye, decorate and then search for them outside….only for a few to be erroneously found in the heat of the following days.

2f7b30c0-d9d6-4683-9567-a63c00039a24One of the perks of our showroom is our plethora of live kitchens, we are able to demo a variety of appliances and enable customers to get an up-close and personal look before they purchase.
Recently, one of our owners brought in some fresh duck, goose, and chicken eggs.

553ab04c-3729-4f41-8751-68cce4c7992f

We immediately thought we should “boil” them using one of our steam ovens….and we went to the Wolf Convection Steam Oven. When was the last time you changed the way you boiled eggs? New technology in appliances has certainly brought us many shortcuts to spending hours in the kitchen….induction cooktops can cut your boiling time into less than half, speed ovens greatly reduce your baking time, but you can’t perfectly boil your eggs this way without a steam oven.

bc9ecee6-87f6-4c1b-9d99-2936d54f3d42

We actually put the eggs in the steam oven on a cardboard holder, which we don’t recommend….steam created a slightly soggy egg holder, but they cooked perfectly regardless.

3a3bfe25-131e-4f69-b998-7545dd49fbd3

The eggs were varied sizes and the oven was set at 210 degrees, then give or take 18 minutes, all the eggs were finished to perfection.  There was no pot of boiling water to watch, trying to guess just how long to leave them on the cooktop….instead, we found the right setting on the display and the oven’s digital technology took away all the guesswork.

67f1a322-1cfb-48ee-991c-cbe7d1e88f99

A new way of boiling provided beautifully cooked yolks with eggs supplied by a duck, a goose and a chicken.
76be4c95-0176-40f8-bbe5-17c5d00915d0  Steam Ovens are unique, they might possibly be considered the most versatile oven.  Where else can leftovers be reheated to taste better than when originally prepared, a stale croissant rejuvenated to crispy fresh and steamed veggies retain more vitamins….only in a Steam Oven.  Click on the link to see a couple videos and view more details about this cutting edge technology appliance.

Pizzas, Flatbreads, and Yum….Oh My !

Last Thursday we were treated to some yummy flatbreads cooked on the Lynx Napoli Outdoor Pizza Oven.….in our parking lot!   The Demo Lynx Pizza Oven was here and our awesome Sales Rep, Nikki Salerno, created and cooked up some great combos to the delight of our customers and staff.

1bde952e-e633-4540-be6f-bfc2794f0254

She used some packaged flatbreads and a pre-cooked crust, they worked perfectly. The varieties ranged from barbecue pork, caprese/ basil – mozzarella- tomato -pesto, pepperoni, veggies with parmesan, and ham with mozzarella.

0712e2df-3584-49f0-8b2f-fe9d4fb3979a

These flatbreads cooked up quickly with crispy crusts and the perfect melted cheese on top.

115dd3e2-361e-4d2e-88e0-2020d371c531

They were gobbled up as soon as they were put on a serving platter…
We actually have this Pizza Oven on display in our Summer Kitchen area…in our showroom it is shown as sitting on a countertop, but it can be built -in or a cart can be purchased.
There is an 18″ x 22″ stone surface drawer that pulls forward for easy access, and a removable front door that can be in place to keep in the heat, or removed for viewing.  Also included is a 12 1/4″ x 20″ aluminum pizza peel.
This oven preheats quickly to 700 degrees, the control knobs are illuminated with blue LED lights, and the interior has halogen lighting.

9494faba-61df-4289-bb68-02fc615b9b7e

This oven will also be making an appearance this week at the MCBC Golf Tournament at Keene’s Pointe.  We will once again be sponsoring a hole with Busby Cabinets and treating some of our favorite builders and golfers to freshly made flatbreads.

You really need to come in and get a look at this for yourself, and talk to one of sales associates for up to date pricing and get all the specifics regarding accessories available….and how it might fit into your summer kitchen.

Leftovers Get Steamy….

e8101b06-d41e-4ded-9d8e-258c4e0a460b 090f2d32-a109-4d34-9429-b0286a284f5c

Steam ovens are still one of the relatively newer appliances to hit the market…..our sales staff loves to use them and show them to customers.    There are several misconceptions associated with the steam oven – they look too small, they don’t seem like they would perform multiple functions, and why do I need another cooking  appliance in my kitchen?
A lot of food makes it way through our showroom live kitchens and into the mouths of our staff and customers.   Recently, one of our vendors treated us to lunch and provided  massive amounts of food from Tijuana Flats, we made a good dent but had lots of leftovers.

536e714e-7e71-4c45-8364-83075d469f00

We fit 8 leftover containers into 2 steam ovens to reheat…..the Bosch and the Jenn-Air. I was a doubter about their ability to hold all the containers, but I was proved wrong.    They were not too small.

f093b2ac-009f-4c90-919b-b1c3f19d1972

We were able to heat large amounts of food in just 2 steam ovens.  One of the great qualities of heating with steam is, you have the advantage of adding moisture back in to your food resulting in leftovers that are not dried out and often taste better the second time around.

f62ac1a8-6eec-4845-ab10-221e3323b704

This blog is singing the praises of elevating the taste, and saving the life of leftovers by using the wonderful steam oven.  Steam ovens are way more than a means to heat up leftovers…..they will crisp food while maintaining the moisture, they have the space and ability to cook the whole meal from veggies to meats in one appliance, there are pre-set modes to perform multiple functions from defrosting to making perfect boiled eggs  or the flakiest pastry.

73a0d9a7-209a-411b-a114-edfe5e959659 951b6293-aee6-41f0-a5ea-9dfa80f30eb6

Bosch and Jenn-Air both have great Steam Ovens – they have the same steam, convection, and combo steam-convection features.  The Jenn-Air has a slightly slower convection preheat, but the Jenn-Air model is 110 volts and works great in remodels without 240 volt connections.

The misconceptions about steam ovens are wrong….they look small, but hold a lot – they cook everything from a Beef Wellington to simply reheating multiple foods – and as far as concerns over adding an additional appliance in the kitchen, no other appliance can accomplish this much using such a small footprint of space.
Look out for future blogs that will go into further detail regarding the features on the multitude of amazing steam ovens we display in our showroom.

Spring Cleaning Time is here…..

Spring has sprung…March 20th was the first day of Spring, bring on the pollen, allergies, sneezing, blooming flowers, and college students flocking to our state.   Spring is also the time we think we should traditionally clean and get a fresh start after our ‘harsh’ winter.
At Aggressive, we support spring cleaning of your appliances….as much as our Service Department loves to visit you and your appliances, we will offer some suggestions to keep your investments running smoothly.

69f84b6f-289c-4e81-8d3a-41cdf9399790

I love the Dishwasher….the kitchen can be trashed, dirty dishes everywhere, and in minutes they are hidden away in the dishwasher and not seen until they are sparkly clean.   To keep your dishwasher as your best cleaning friend, try a few proactive maintenance moves so you can prevent dishpan hands.
–  Make sure the drain is clean, periodically check it and clean
out the food debris to keep it draining and running smoothly.
–  Place a cup filled with white vinegar on the top rack and run your dishwasher through a cycle on the hottest setting.
****  And remember, do NOT over-rinse your dishes the newer dishwashers need a certain amount of grease and grime in order to do their job.

 The Microwave
– Pour a cup of vinegar and a cup of water into a measuring cup
and place in your microwave, set timer for 5-10 minutes
on med-high setting and when time is up, carefully remove
container with an oven mitt.  Wipe down the interior with a wet
rag, steam from water and vinegar will loosen any spills or
splatters.

**** Vinegar….is a recurring theme, it will be your best friend,
buy it by the gallon.

The Oven
Newer ovens have wonderful self-cleaning modes, use your
owner’s manual, go online and follow the directions…yes,
sometimes we need to look at the directions…it will save you
money and time.

Please refer to a past blog on Self-Cleaning Ovens, if you don’t
want to click and open it….then, just trust us when we say do
NOT use oven cleaners, they will most likely damage the
interior of your oven during self-cleaning mode.
If you have an oven with a self-cleaning option, use it, and that
task is done.

 The Refrigerator
– Clean behind and under…sweep, vacuum, whatever it takes to
get rid of pet hair, dust, and anything responsible for
blocking airflow or getting the coils dirty.
– A simple cleaning to do is just empty the fridge, throw out
expired items, wipe down the shelves, check water filter and
see if need replacing or order and have on hand.

For any glass surfaces, use some rubbing alcohol….take a spray nozzle attachment, put on the bottle of alcohol and simply spray surfaces and wipe clean, this works best with a microfiber cloth….on Glass surfaces.
For Stainless surfaces we recommend an oil based cleaner.

The internet is full of great spring cleaning ideas….simple is best.

Outdoor Kitchens
Aggressive has a tech assigned to just cleaning grills….it is a
tough dirty job, call our Service Department 407-295-4489 or fill
out a service request online and get all the details to set up an
appointment and check this scary job off your list.  It will be
done correctly and efficiently while you and your
outdoor kitchen area stay clean…letting us do this will also
promote great harmony between those living in the home, no
dirty, greasy, sooty, clothes or shoes tracking through the
house.

Happy Spring….use these simple ideas and reminders to clean and maintain your appliances, common sense is always best, and call our Service Department for any repairs or maintenance appointments, then enjoy your kitchen.
