You can probably still hear the lingering fireworks from the person in your neighborhood that has decided to shoot off the final few leftovers in their arsenal.  Our 4th of July celebrations, American flags on display and everything red, white and blue just occurred in towns and cities all across America.  We Americans love to celebrate our country.

It’s Hot…We’ve got Ice !

I think every person that has walked through our doors today has said,” it is so hot outside”…yes, it is summer and July is here.  To help cool you off, make your drinks nice and icy, or maybe you need a few ice cubes to throw down your shirt….we’ve got ice, and a variety of Ice machines on display, ready for you to see up close and personal.

We don’t actually sell machines that make heart shaped ice… but that would be awesome and we do love our ice !

At Aggressive, we carry a good variety of Ice Machines, not to be confused with the Ice Makers that live inside your freezer. Ice machines are under counter units, in our showroom we have the following brands(in alphabetical order) ~ GE Monogram, Kitchen-Aid, Manitowoc, Marvel, True, SubZero, Uline and Whirlpool. ….and even better, our machines are “live” so you can grab some cubes, and taste and sample while you shop.

The ice cubes produced by these machines have unique shapes, are actually quite beautiful, and several machines produce similar shaped cubes….each brand mentioned will be highlighted with a link to their respective websites for you to see specifications and a general idea of pricing.

Ice from Subzero and Manitowoc machines…clear, with no odor and clean taste due to excellent filtration system, have unique octagonal shape and melts slowly.

Ice from Scotsman Brilliance, GE Monogram and True clear ice machines… won’t clump or dilute drinks, also melts slowly and cools drinks quickly.

Hurricanes and Appliances

We are bringing back a previous blog from Appliance Boy to get us ready for the hurricane season.   In Florida, our season runs from early June to November.  The peak is from mid- August to late October.

“Is there anything that I can do to get my appliances ready for a hurricane?”

While some might view this as a ridiculous question, there are several things that you can do regarding your appliances to help, or at least minimize headaches after the fact.hurricane

Water: I will start by saying that water is not good for electronics. Hopefully water intrusion won’t be a major issue for most people in Central Florida, but it might be for our friends and family closer to the coast. If you think you will be facing a major threat of flooding, unplug the appliance or flip the breaker to it. Do not turn it back on until you are reasonably sure that any electrical components are dried out. (Think of a cell phone)

Power surges: These are a higher likelihood for many of us as lightning increases in proximity to the storm. If you do not have surge protectors or are worried about some of the complicated electronics in your appliances, it is not a bad idea to unplug them or flip the breakers to those units. If they are built-in appliances and you don’t have access to the plugs, flip the breakers.
What if you lose power?  Do not panic, your refrigerator can work like a large Igloo ™ cooler. Keep in mind however, that anytime you open it with no power you will be letting cold air out and it will begin warming up. Frozen foods and ice will begin to melt. When the ice melts it will probably start to leak out of your freezer onto your floor. Remove the ice bucket and use it in your cooler to help keep those foods cool. To prep for the storm put as many bottles of water into your freezer as possible so that you have a higher ice load to maintain the cold. Remember that water expands when it freezes so drain a little off before you put them in. If you lose power you can move some of these to the refrigerator compartment to help keep it cold. It is also a good idea to go ahead and set your refrigerator and freezer to their coldest temperatures.

Flowers for Dinner


I recently visited the BSH Design and Experience Center in Irvine, California…..will go into more detail later about the awesome appliances in this facility, but wanted to share a quick, easy and fun recipe we learned in class.

Squash Blossoms showed up in two meals, once in a  beautiful salad, and for lunch one day our group teamed up and made this unusual side dish.
***Squash blossoms are the edible flowers of the squash plant and usually come in orange and yellow shades. Squash blossoms are soft, delicate, and usually taste mildly like the squash itself.


They are so beautiful….and let’s face it, we don’t get to eat a flower everyday.
We prepared according to the directions, and we basically were spoiled by having all the ingredients
pre-measured and prepped for us…I want to cook this way all the time.

1. In Pan, heat 1/4 inch oil.
2. Dredge squash blossoms in egg wash then in flour.
3. Saute squash blossoms until lightly browned.  Turn and brown on the other side.
4. Remove to sheet pan with rack.
5. Place in warming drawer until ready to serve.
6. Arrange Sautéed Squash Blossoms on serving platters.  Garnish with lemon, parmesan cheese and flaky sea salt.

So easy, and the results were beautiful and delicious !

 Now, I don’t know how often, if ever, you will see many squash blossoms to buy, but if you do…..do yourself a favor and treat yourself or impress your friends.

I also picked up a few practical and easy ideas to incorporate into everyday cooking and food presentation….

Simply slice and sear lemons for maximum flavor and use to garnish your salad or incorporate into any dish.

Serve your salad piled up and arranged on a
large cutting board…so pretty!

Also, any meal is easier to prepare when 15 people are doing the cooking….breathtaking meals came together so fast!

The Bosch and Thermador kitchens where cooking and training took place were a great environment to see, touch and experience the state of the art appliances belonging to these two brands.

As impressive as the design center was, I realized how fortunate our customers and sales staff are to be able to show off appliances in our “live” kitchens as well.  Our showroom is unique and there is the opportunity to have a sales associate demo many of our appliances when you visit.

Steam = Success !

When Aggressive opened its doors in 1980, the microwave oven was cutting edge technology.
Since then, we’ve had a bunch of innovative cooking products introduced, some with success, others, not so much (a refrigerating range comes to mind).  In this brief article, let’s look at one of the great success stories, which in fact has become a whole new category of cooking products:  convection steam ovens.

These ovens not only work miracles with leftovers (revitalizing even pizza!), but they are the absolute healthiest way to cook vegetables; allowing them to retain 100% of their nutrients – nothing is lost. Convection steam as the name indicates is a combination of fan forced heat and steam acting on the food. Miele has a steam only product, but they also have a combi-steam which is more versatile.

Now we’re smokin’….with the Memphis Grill

May is National Barbecue Month, and for the non-meat eaters….it is also National Salad Month, everyone should be thrilled at the picnic.

Spotlight on Chef Kenny….

One of the perks of working and shopping at Aggressive Appliances is getting to sample and enjoy the food that passes through here.
 We will be taking the opportunity to give a little attention to some of the talented chefs that have prepared some awesome meals in our showroom.

This month, let me introduce you to Kenny Kolaiah.
Kenny has been cooking and selling BBQ for the last 9 years and has gradually started doing small caterings like family reunions, parties, etc.  He was working full time with Orange County Public Schools and after working his business on the side, decided to quit his job and pursue a career change.  During the difficult time of trying to build his business, he hit a few bumps in the road and had to work odd jobs to make ends meet….at this time he discovered and applied for the Second Harvest Culinary Training Program.

He has been fortunate to be catering full-time for the last 3 years… Kolaiah’s Catering currently offers a variety of cuisines, full/drop off catering services, private chef, and volunteers to provide meals for the hungry every month.

It should always be National Grilled Cheese Month

We are not really sure who decides this, but April is National Grilled Cheese Month…we feel the only honorable thing to do is celebrate and embrace it.

In our showroom, our favorite way to make a grilled cheese sandwich is in the GE Monogram Advantium Oven.  We have a live unit in our Monogram kitchen and while this oven has many features and capabilities, you just can’t beat the way this oven makes an awesome grilled cheese.

Before we get to the food pictures, the Advantium Oven is in a class by itself…a brief description of its attributes are as follows:
–  Advantium technology harnesses the power of light.  The outside of the food is cooked like a conventional oven, with radiant heat produced by halogen bulbs above and below the food.  This halogen-produced heat receives a boost of microwave energy.

Pizzas, Flatbreads, and Yum….Oh My !

Last Thursday we were treated to some yummy flatbreads cooked on the Lynx Napoli Outdoor Pizza Oven.….in our parking lot!   The Demo Lynx Pizza Oven was here and our awesome Sales Rep, Nikki Salerno, created and cooked up some great combos to the delight of our customers and staff.

She used some packaged flatbreads and a pre-cooked crust, they worked perfectly. The varieties ranged from barbecue pork, caprese/ basil – mozzarella- tomato -pesto, pepperoni, veggies with parmesan, and ham with mozzarella.

These flatbreads cooked up quickly with crispy crusts and the perfect melted cheese on top.

 They were gobbled up as soon as they were put on a serving platter…
We actually have this Pizza Oven on display in our Summer Kitchen area…in our showroom it is shown as sitting on a countertop, but it can be built -in or a cart can be purchased.
There is an 18″ x 22″ stone surface drawer that pulls forward for easy access, and a removable front door that can be in place to keep in the heat, or removed for viewing.  Also included is a 12 1/4″ x 20″ aluminum pizza peel.
This oven preheats quickly to 700 degrees, the control knobs are illuminated with blue LED lights, and the interior has halogen lighting.

This oven will also be making an appearance this week at the MCBC Golf Tournament at Keene’s Pointe.  We will once again be sponsoring a hole with Busby Cabinets and treating some of our favorite builders and golfers to freshly made flatbreads.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day !

 

St. Patrick’s Day occurs annually on March 17 in observance of the death of St. Patrick, the patron Saint of Ireland. What began as a religious feast day in the 17th century has evolved into a multitude of festivals across the globe celebrating Irish culture with parades, a variety of special foods, music, dancing, and a whole lot of green.

The team at Aggressive started celebrating a day early on Thursday with an amazing Irish inspired feast for lunch.   Cheryl Jaskot prepared a menu that included Corned Beef w/Potato Rolls,  Cabbage/Vegetable Soup, Guinness Cheese Spread, Irish Pub Salad and Car Bomb Cupcakes.

Cheryl cooked the Corned Beef with the seasoning packet included, coated it with approx. 1/3 c mustard and 1/2 c brown sugar, and braised them with a bottle of Guinness beer.  She baked them at 300 degrees for about 4 hrs, on Convection bake in our Jenn-Air and GE Monogram multi rack ovens.

The Car Bomb Cupcakes are everyone’s favorite…..how can you go wrong with dark chocolate cake w/Guinness, Irish Whiskey in the ganache filling, and Bailey’s Irish Cream in the frosting.   Click here for this recipe if you want to make them for yourself.
