Investing in Camouflage

AA-Camo

I tried to buy an integrated refrigerator…but I couldn’t find one. (My appliance version of the joke “I tried to buy a camouflage shirt but couldn’t find one”). Exactly what DO refrigeration and camouflage have in common? A whole lot! Kitchens today are disappearing into cabinetry to create seamless, integrated looks. When opening any kitchen cabinetry door or drawer don’t be surprised if you find perfect produce, creamy milk, or fine wines. How can you make a great investment in your home with the appliance industry’s version of camouflage?

Most products we buy (think cars and boats) begin to depreciate drastically the moment they’re put into service. There are however a few products that not only hold their value, but in fact enhance the overall value of a home. Integrated refrigeration is one such product. Integrated refrigeration is virtually indistinguishable from your custom cabinetry. These products can be designed into your kitchen with incredible location flexibility. Here are pictures of several units as captured on an iPhone 6. Pricing is MSRP* (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price).

Your Cup of Tea?

GECafeKeurig

GE Café Series has come up with a brilliant way to make your free-standing refrigerator work harder for you. If you love your Keurig, you’ll love this new feature on this exceptionally featured GE Café French door, standard or counter-depth refrigerator.

As if brewing up your favorite K-cup of tea, coffee, or hot cocoa weren’t enough, you can also dispense hot water. From an app on your phone you can also schedule just when your hot water should be ready to go. Imagine climbing out of bed, pushing a button and having hot water or your Keurig dispenser ready to go…no preheat time required because the refrigerator followed your programmed schedule. The hot water can also be dispensed at a specific temperature using 4 presets, think soup and oatmeal temperatures. While it dispenses the screen displays how many ounces (or mL) have come out. That’s awesome!

Some other features? With the Precise Fill function, the dispenser will let you select how much water to dispense. So, for instance, if you need 3/4 cups of water for your cookies, you can select that amount and the refrigerator will dispense that amount. There’s a perfect temp drawer that also lights up different colors depending on the setting so you don’t have to guess as to which you picked. There are three settings.

This refrigerator offers a dual evaporation system called TwinChill™ evaporators. They regulate odors and humidity independently in the freezer and refrigerator sections. Why would this be important to you? Because it will keep your food fresher, longer.

GECafeRefLED

The counter-depth model boasts a 22.2 cf capacity, while the standard depth offers 27.8 cf. With a MSRP of $3300 and beautiful, bright LED lighting it’s clear to see why this might be a refrigerator you would want to take a look at on our showroom floor. See you soon!

You’re So Fresh!!!

We really advocate using appliances correctly. Some may tend to generalize and use their appliances the same way every time even when they’ve updated or upgraded to new appliances.  This made me think that maybe we should throw out some hints on the best ways to use your appliances starting with refrigeration.

SubzeroRefrigerator

Refrigerators are good at keeping things cold, but not everything needs to go in the refrigerator and not every part of a refrigerator does the same thing. Some foods do not do well in the refrigerator.  Most potatoes are best stored in a cool, dark cabinet – not the refrigerator.  Onions aren’t as light sensitive, but like potatoes shouldn’t be refrigerated.

Onion

Check your tomatoes, peaches, pears, or nectarines for ripeness.  If they aren’t quite ripe, do not refrigerate them yet.  Leave them on the counter until ripe because refrigeration keeps them from ripening further. Lemons do well for a week on countertops but should then be stored in the crisper drawer of a refrigerator to keep fresh.

Lemons

For foods that do need to be refrigerated, pay attention to where you place them in a refrigerator.  The door shelves are the warmest part of the refrigerator, so the items that are most sensitive to temperature and temperature fluctuations should not be stored on the door. Eggs and milk are best stored deep in the refrigerator, even if your refrigerator has gallon door shelves. This helps maintain a consistent, cold temp that both of those items need to maintain their freshness.  Your produce bins are designed to maintain the best temperature and humidity for produce, so use them for that.  If you are not sure where your food will last longest, check your owner’s manual.

Milk

If there is still any mystery as to wear to store your foods in your refrigerator, refer to your owner’s manual. If your owner’s manual was stolen by the same people that broke in and got your DVD remote, give us a call. We will help if we can. And if not…there’s always Google.

Science Experiments, Vacuums, and Vinegar

FD-EL23BC90KS-OEH2.tif; FD-EW23BC85KS-OLH_131_L01.psd, cool zoneAfter Doug’s blog last week I was inspired to check out the daily holidays and found that “National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day” is just around the corner! November 15th, conveniently falls on a Sunday. This is the day to go to town tidying up fresh food preservers everywhere! Come on fellow humans! Join me in the clean party! (I sure know how to have a good time). RefDirtyWarning….each refrigerator comes with its own list of instructions on how to clean the interior and exterior. I would highly recommend reading it before you take any of my advice.

Start by removing all the science experiments, tossing anything unrecognizable, and ridding the fridge of anything that has a less than aromatic, enticing scent. Wiping down shelves and interior walls, washing drawers, and wiping down the exterior handles and surfaces, are all part of the clean transformation from “ick” to “Niiiiice!”. My personal favorite is to use a vinegar-water solution in a spray bottle and good old warm soap and water. Sure your refrigerator may smell like a soapy salad….but after a little while…the clean and freshness will come through!

RefDirty2

If your refrigerator has a coil it’s recommended it get vacuumed. Every 6 months to a year is a good start, but let’s face it, most people don’t do that. Why not start? It will help the efficiency of your appliance and increase its life expectancy while simultaneously reducing your yuck factor instantly!

Having a clean refrigerator really is a feel-good feeling. It’s an easy and quick way to achieve a quick sense of accomplishment. Another way is to toss it and come buy a new one here!

Happy Holiday!

In Living Color

TLK_4C_SMAn old show jingle used to play “Do what you want to do – in living color”. Do you remember it? Before your time? It came to mind to me today because if you know Aggressive, you know we do what we want to do and that usually means changing…..all the time.

LK1

Our latest change is in our Subzero-Wolf section aka “The Living Kitchen” and it is very close to completion. We have a few finishing touches along with a few holes to fill in….but this area of our showroom is fast becoming my favorite spot to wander through. It really showcases the beauty of Subzero, Wolf, and Asko lines.

LK5

I really love the way the Subzero wine storage column looks in its new home! The design elements selected really make the Wolf Pro 48″ range “pop” while the Asko dishwasher is set in a beautiful, cozy cove. The three brands come together with vivid textures and metallic finishes to truly showcase the beauty and quality of the appliances.

Our showroom always has surprises springing up. We’d love for you to stop by so you can touch, feel, and look at “The Living Kitchen” in living color….TileCropCV

More Than Words

gaggenau-logoGaggenau. I’ve mentioned the name a few times to a few people outside of my industry with looks of “Huh?” But those who know Gaggenau, know Gaggenau. This super premium brand, with exceptional quality and styling, is worth knowing about. The design, while not for everyone, may just be yours. If it is you’ll recognize it immediately. Gaggenau2 The sleek design, innovation, quality, and artistry of Gaggenau has always caught my eye. The attention to detail and craftsmanship in their built-in cooking products, refrigeration line, ventilation, and dishwashers are a true reflection of their premium status in the appliance industry. I could tell you that the ovens have doors that never get hotter than 65 degrees on the outside. I could tell you that their built-in cooktops have knobs that are integrated into countertops creating seamless countertop views. I could tell you that you can combine a variety of cooktops to create a custom cooking combination.Gaggenau2__1807_x_1357_-1438x1080 I could tell you how the refrigerators disappear in a kitchen but have stainless steel interiors, precision temperatures, and are the quietest in their class. I could tell you that BSH, the parent company of Gaggenau, Thermador, and Bosch, with Gaggenau being the top of their lines, produce their dishwashers. Yes, that kind of quality. Gaggenau1 But talking and telling rarely translate to the actual experience. Seeing the product, turning the knobs, feeling the weight and sturdiness of the doors, viewing the lighting, touching the materials used to manufacture their product, that’s when you know Gaggenau. There are some things that don’t require words. Gaggenau is one of them.

With a few pieces on display and a full kitchen to be completed by 4th quarter 2015, come in to our showroom and see that even one piece will tell you all you need to know without hearing a word.

Culinary Tetris

Ever have that dreaded problem of running out of space in your main refrigerator? Do you find yourself practicing Tetris skills maneuvering leftovers around or while adding in fresh groceries? With cabinet depth and integrated refrigeration soaring in popularity main refrigeration space is at a premium, however, there are a few solutions.

As the refrigerator and freezer stuffing holidays creep upon us, having additional places to store your perishable goodies may be something to consider. If holidays and gatherings are your thing, you’ll need more space, and possibly more ice, for entertaining all your hungry and thirsty party people. There are a variety of under-counter refrigeration and ice making solutions including “cool” pieces such as refrigerator and freezer drawers. If remodeling the entire kitchen isn’t on the horizon consider getting a freestanding piece. An extra appliance in the garage, a spare room, or a pantry off the kitchen can do wonders for lowering stress levels when trying to find additional space. Frigidaire offers a full product line of “Garage Ready” freezer/refrigerator combos that start at $499 MSRP for a 9.9 cubic foot model. Here’s a snazzy picture of it.  FrigRefREVWe carry such a wide selection of options that if you have a desire to add additional food preservation, wine storage, or ice making space into your home, we will be able to find the right appliance for you. So before the busy holiday season hits with its crazed cooking frenzy….get prepared with space to store your yummy ingredients and creations. Bring on the festivities!!!

DCS, ATK, Oh my!

DCSlogoDCS3

DCS by Fisher & Paykel has a quiet history since they don’t spend a ton of money on marketing; however, other well known names have used DCS in their lineups.  They began in 1988 in California when a commercial range was custom built for use in a residential application. Realizing they had a great product to offer to the masses they started selling their recipe for quality and function to companies such as Viking, Thermador, GE Monogram, and JennAir. Yup. You read that right. You didn’t even know you knew DCS, did you?DCSATK

DCS8

Last week I was whisked away to Boston, along with a crew of 9 equally appliance enthused (I’m not being sarcastic here, we love appliances that much!) sales reps from all over the USA, to take a few succulent bites into the world of DCS by Fisher & Paykel. To mix it up, we weren’t trained in a DCS facility, but in America’s Test Kitchen. ATK’s founder, Chris Kimball, has DCS in his personal kitchens, which prompted his natural choice of DCS appliances in ATK’s kitchens.

DCScrewREv

ATK’s home is tucked away in an old building in Boston complete with a maze of quirky turns, steps, food, and dining tables with a backdrop of old school, historic charm. We were graciously welcomed by ATK to cook, learn, laugh, and eat within their bustling cooking, testing, and tasting world. In this cozy setting we learned DCS is truly a powerhouse of quality, function, and is user friendly whether you’re a master chef, a weekend cooking warrior, or a 30 minute weeknight meal maker. Using ATK recipes, mouth watering, waist growing meals were created by us all while learning hands on just how fun and easy DCS is to use.

DCS1There’s something really remarkable about bonding over quality appliances and cooking with people that have an equivalent passion for appliances. DCS and ATK really set the table for a gracious, welcoming learning experience.

If you’re looking for meaty, commercial quality appliances without too many bells and whistles, DCS is the way to go. The DCS customer wants a tried and true, quality appliance with a minimal learning curve to get great results focused on highlighting the finished culinary masterpiece.

With professional ranges, commercial quality wall-ovens, precision cooktops, versatile dish drawers, searing outdoor grills, and a built-in line of refrigeration due out any minute, this is a line to consider if you want hard-working, solid appliances without a super premium price tag. We have their line on display, so please stop in. We’d love to get you fired up over them!

Black Steel My Heart

KTAblckSteelKitchenAid has introduced their new line of black stainless steel appliances. While there is a complete family of products in this color offering (dishwasher, walloven, hood) the 5 door refrigerator is a true treat. It screams “LOOK AT ME! I appeal to the appliance nerd in you!!” I’m not ashamed to say “YES, YES IT DOES!!!” I showed random people the piece all morning, and by random, I mean trade partners and contractors that weren’t here to shop. (sorry guys)

KTAopen

Why? I’ll tell you why. There are 5 doors to open and close! The organization and design coolness makes me want to learn everything about this refrigerator. It has a platinum interior, soft close doors, Preserva Food Care System that provides two independent cooling systems, herb storage in an angled drawer to keep stems damp but leaves the herb leaves alone, satin glide drawers, side shelves that pop out easily for cleaning, and a 3 tier freezer drawer section. At 25.8 cubic capacity, there is a TON of space in this refrigerator.

KTAfreezer - Copy

I love the idea of being able to open independent drawers and doors eliminating temperature fluctuations in the other areas of the unit. That in itself tells me that preservation will be at peak performance. While there is ice and water through the door it doesn’t seem to hinder the useable space in the fresh food section. The two independent drawers fully extend!!

KTAmedallion

I’m also loving the new KitchenAid medallions on the ends of the handles. They come in red, but can be ordered in black or stainless. If the black stainless steel is too bold for your taste, the refrigerator comes in stainless steel as well. MSRP in black or stainless steel is $3999.

Even if you aren’t looking for a new refrigerator, if you’re in the area you have to stop in and see this refrigerator for yourself. It’s definitely worth the trip!

“Avengers Assemble!”

Marvel_LogoMention Marvel and super heroes, comic books, and refrigeration may come to mind, at least for me they do. With the new Avengers movie out I can’t help but imagine combining “Marvels” and hosting my own “Marvel” outdoor theme party. Take a walk into my daydream of streaming movies on Netflix and having not one, but TWO types of beer on tap in a Marvel twin tap outdoor beer dispenser. The Marvel dispensing a stream of beer while Netflix streams Marvel movies, theme complete! To be fair, they aren’t pronounced the same. But work with me here….I’m going for effect!AGA_Outside-Cover_Final-1024x768

Marvel (as in AGA-Marvel) has a dual tap beer dispenser that (like a superhero) can transform from a beer tap into a refrigerator and back again! There are “stow-on-board” shelves that convert it seamlessly into a refrigerator. The unit can be built-in or portable. So if you need to move it closer to you but are too relaxed to move, a little push in your direction will take care of your need easily and effortlessly. Or, just lounge by the bar if you prefer it be built-in. It is the only 24″ wide model currently available that can store a 1/2 keg. The temperature can be controlled between 34° and 46° F using Marvel Prime™ technology. Decide the temp and it keeps it there. Dynamic Cooling Technology™ brings the temp down quickly when loading up the unit while also keeping the inside at the temp you select, precisely and accurately.Marvel1 Forgot to close the door? An alarm will sound if/when the unit drops/rises to above/below the set temp or if the door is left open. With a close door assist and insulated cabinet, you’ll be sure that your contents are protected from excessive vibration AND outside elements. The door is made of corrosion resistant stainless to withstand the outdoors as well. And while there is little assembly required…..the only thing left to do is “assemble” YOUR team.

We have this marvelous Marvel on display at our showroom so you can physically see all these features for yourself. And even though I don’t own one, I will. One day…
