Spring Cleaning Time is here…..

Spring has sprung…March 20th was the first day of Spring, bring on the pollen, allergies, sneezing, blooming flowers, and college students flocking to our state.   Spring is also the time we think we should traditionally clean and get a fresh start after our ‘harsh’ winter.
At Aggressive, we support spring cleaning of your appliances….as much as our Service Department loves to visit you and your appliances, we will offer some suggestions to keep your investments running smoothly.

69f84b6f-289c-4e81-8d3a-41cdf9399790

I love the Dishwasher….the kitchen can be trashed, dirty dishes everywhere, and in minutes they are hidden away in the dishwasher and not seen until they are sparkly clean.   To keep your dishwasher as your best cleaning friend, try a few proactive maintenance moves so you can prevent dishpan hands.
–  Make sure the drain is clean, periodically check it and clean
out the food debris to keep it draining and running smoothly.
–  Place a cup filled with white vinegar on the top rack and run your dishwasher through a cycle on the hottest setting.
****  And remember, do NOT over-rinse your dishes the newer dishwashers need a certain amount of grease and grime in order to do their job.

 The Microwave
– Pour a cup of vinegar and a cup of water into a measuring cup
and place in your microwave, set timer for 5-10 minutes
on med-high setting and when time is up, carefully remove
container with an oven mitt.  Wipe down the interior with a wet
rag, steam from water and vinegar will loosen any spills or
splatters.

**** Vinegar….is a recurring theme, it will be your best friend,
buy it by the gallon.

The Oven
Newer ovens have wonderful self-cleaning modes, use your
owner’s manual, go online and follow the directions…yes,
sometimes we need to look at the directions…it will save you
money and time.

Please refer to a past blog on Self-Cleaning Ovens, if you don’t
want to click and open it….then, just trust us when we say do
NOT use oven cleaners, they will most likely damage the
interior of your oven during self-cleaning mode.
If you have an oven with a self-cleaning option, use it, and that
task is done.

 The Refrigerator
– Clean behind and under…sweep, vacuum, whatever it takes to
get rid of pet hair, dust, and anything responsible for
blocking airflow or getting the coils dirty.
– A simple cleaning to do is just empty the fridge, throw out
expired items, wipe down the shelves, check water filter and
see if need replacing or order and have on hand.

For any glass surfaces, use some rubbing alcohol….take a spray nozzle attachment, put on the bottle of alcohol and simply spray surfaces and wipe clean, this works best with a microfiber cloth….on Glass surfaces.
For Stainless surfaces we recommend an oil based cleaner.

The internet is full of great spring cleaning ideas….simple is best.

Outdoor Kitchens
Aggressive has a tech assigned to just cleaning grills….it is a
tough dirty job, call our Service Department 407-295-4489 or fill
out a service request online and get all the details to set up an
appointment and check this scary job off your list.  It will be
done correctly and efficiently while you and your
outdoor kitchen area stay clean…letting us do this will also
promote great harmony between those living in the home, no
dirty, greasy, sooty, clothes or shoes tracking through the
house.

Happy Spring….use these simple ideas and reminders to clean and maintain your appliances, common sense is always best, and call our Service Department for any repairs or maintenance appointments, then enjoy your kitchen.

Why are grills so expensive?!

Why are grills so expensive?!

If you have ever bought a grill at one of the big box stores, it can make our grills that start about $1000 and up (way up…way, way up) seem kind of pricey. What are you getting with a $3999 DCS, $5769 Wolf or a $12,999 Alfresco that you do not get with a $199 Memorial Day promo grill? BTU’s and longer life are the key benefits.

dcs-1-300x300

I was at my sister’s house a few weeks ago. She lives out of state and can’t easily buy appliances from us, so don’t judge her. As the appliance expert of the family, she asked me to look at her grill. Without even walking outside, I told her that her hardware store grill is only good for about two or three years and then maybe you can replace a few parts and get another year out of it. When I looked at it, I was exactly correct. Even though it has stainless steel burners and stainless flame tamers, they do not use the same grade or gauge metal as the premium brands. In her case, the caps over the burners that even out the heat were a pile of rust and the stainless base plate had so much rust that the brackets holding up the drip pan were gone. I was able to wire some things together and get one more season out of her grill.

Our premium brand grills typically have lifetime warranties on most of their stainless steel components. That doesn’t mean you can forget about maintenance. The burners, grates, fireboxes and other heat zone components are built of much thicker gauge material that last much longer. The other big advantage is that our grills are much hotter. If you want to sear a steak the way Ruth’s Chris does, you need a thousand or more degrees. The main burners from our grills are often 25,000 btu’s or higher. Alfresco’s sear zone will hit 1,400 degrees Fahrenheit. At that temperature, you can create a great crust on your steak so quickly that you can keep a great rare zone in the middle.

I don’t want to say that you cannot successfully cook on a less expensive grill; I did for years. Now that I have a great DCS grill, I can say without reservation that my ability to cook great meals has gone up substantially. Come in and let us show you some options to turn your parties into a more impressive event.

Always Be True To You

true_logo

TrueVintage1It occurred to me on my latest appliance adventure to Missouri that garages have made a major impact on American history. From music, to computers, to appliances…..they have been an integral part in making magic happen in many industries. After hearing that Bob Trulaske, his father, and his brother went to work on the first roll-top-soda-pop-storing refrigerator in a garage, it made me giggle a little because well….another American garage invention success story.TrueVintage2

So who was Bob Trulaske? He is the founder of True Manufacturing, the world’s leading commercial refrigeration supplier. Founded and made in St. Louis, Missouri, 75% of the raw materials used are sourced from the USA. It’s not a shock that Bob also served in the military and was a World War II Veteran.

TrueVintage3

While sitting in their local pop shop, Bob and his brother came up with the idea for a refrigerator that wouldn’t need an expensive block of ice. They promised the owner that when they made their first refrigerator it would be his. So in their garage they built the first commercial soda refrigerator. This roll-top caught the attention of 7-Up and Coca-Cola. These companies wanted these refrigerators and True was more than happy to oblige!

True

Later in the 70s they took a shot at more than just beverage coolers and ventured into the food service industry. People thought they were nuts. What did they know about the food service industry? Considering that the company is in the majority of today’s restaurants, we can see that naysayer hadn’t a clue as to the true capability of True‘s ability to figure it out AND be the best.

True1

Fast forward to 2008 when True decided to take another chance in yet another division they knew nothing about…..the residential market. Again, they were told they were nuts. What did they know about the residential market? Yup. Imagine that? With that in mind I could picture them laughing as they brought to market an uncomparable product line chock full of pieces like a 42″ and 48″ built-in refrigerator with true commercial qualities, under-counter refrigeration, wine preservation, beer dispenser, and an ice machine.

TrueIce

True offers decades of commercial quality brought to market in their residential line. Features such as stainless interior, serious compressed insulation, a 3 year warranty, and all under-counter products being indoor AND outdoor rated, are just some of the perks to their residential line. It can’t all be commercial though….so they add wonderful features such as colorful, choice lighting and stainless steel buttons, backed by hundreds of thousands square footage of manufacturing capabilities.

TrueKitchen

We have these exceptional pieces on display. Stop in so I can infuse you with the same excitement I experienced walking the historical factory that has had a huge, true impact on appliances throughout the world. Truly TrueTrue to and for You.

But they don’t stop there….how about a coffee system and microwave options (built-in, drop down doors, micro-drawers). Under-counter refrigeration and freezers offer you drawer options or door options. Wine storage in beautiful columns, or placed under your counter. Smoking in Memphis

MemphisWingsIn Florida it is always grilling season. That’s why when Memphis Wood Fire Grills rolled in and grilled up perfect, crispy wings, salmon, and juicy beef, on their wood burning grill we thought we should pay this grill some real attention. Wood fire cooking….it’s so primal and immediately brings to mind where cooking all began….on an outdoor fire. For an interesting twist on grilling using 100% natural wood pellets you may want to read more…MemphisLogo

Wood burning pellet grills are not new. This pellet grill just happens to be the first one we brought in because we were so impressed with how it worked, the tasty results, and its quality which features double walled stainless steel. It drops wood pellets into a hopper to burn and heat the grill. You can grill or smoke your meats with a choice of wood flavors based on the pellet flavors you choose. You can purchase their pellets anywhere you purchase their grills or wood pellets in general any place you typically purchase your grilling accessories.

MemphisGrill

This grill is incredibly versatile allowing you to cook 15 pound briskets, pizzas, appetizers, burgers, desserts, wings, burgers, and anything you can think of….without worrying about burning your food. They claim the temperature remains more consistent than an indoor oven due to its intelligent temperature control stating  you can “set it and forget it”. The temperature ranges from 180 to 700 degrees.MemphisSmoked-Tri-Tip-Roast-with-Wood-Fire-Sear

You can grill, smoke, and convection bake on this grill that can be built-in or come on a cart. The most recent models are Wi-fi enabled so you will be able to control the temp and monitor your food from your home, car, or wherever you are when you want to check on your food. The app also allows you to access grill specific recipes to get the most out of your Memphis Grill.

MemphisApples-1-600x450

All Memphis Wood Fire Grills are designed, engineered, and manufactured in the USA and are backed by a 7-year limited warranty. Prices range from $2499 to $4899. Stop in and see it for yourself!

Everything AND the Kitchen Sink

AlfrescoAlfresco rolled in to give us an update on all their outdoor cooking and accessory line. While you should definitely come in to get the full story on their product line (grills, pizza oven, 28″ beverage center that can hold a full keg, to name a few) two of their add-ons really made an impression on me. A built-in grill does not make for a full outdoor kitchen experience….but with these sweet add-ons you’ll have no problem fulfilling every one of your outdoor entertaining needs.

Their 30″ Versa sink MSRP $1197 has plenty to offer. You can fill the sink with ice (and beer!), use it as a prep sink, use other accessories to create your own unique prep space, or rearrange all the parts to suit that day’s needs or wants. With a full size kitchen sink drain, it’s easy to clear it out, too. Everything you see below is included in the full beverage package…..check out the shelf for the BLENDER. I LOVE that! Pictured here is the bar package MSRP $806, the serving shelf MSRP $572, and the middle shelf MSRP $105.

It can change back to this…..to wash up.Alfresco30-inch-versa-sink-as-sink

Or this…with the sink add on package MSRP $549, and high self with a pot rack MSRP $572, and middle shelf MSRP $105.AlfrescoPrepCenterHighShelf

There are accessory packages you can purchase to either do it up beverage style or make it a prep center. This sink is offered in widths of 14″ MSRP $1003 and 24″ MSRP $1405.

Their dry pantry caught my eye, too. The dry pantry takes outdoor storage to a whole new level. We have a LOT of bugs in Florida. These cabinets seal well, channel rain down the specially designed gaskets, and keep out creepy, crawly, bugs.

Alfresco42-Inch-Sealed-Dry-Storage-Pantry-Open

They also seal out humidity, so if you wanted to keep towels, or supplies out there for easy access, you won’t have to keep filling it every time you’re outside. They come in heights of 21″ and 33″ depending on whether you want it under your grill, or right beneath your counter. They offer a 30″ and 42″ width. MSRP is $1749-$2399, depending on the size. With pull out drawers and shelves, you have the option of where and how you want things to grab things.Alfresco30-Inch-Sealed-Dry-Storage-Pantry-Open

Stop in and see what other ways you can take your indoor fun…..outside.

As if we didn’t love him enough already..our dear DCS by Fisher & Paykel rep, Dan Trbovich, came by this last Tuesday to grill up lunch on a DCS grill for our ENTIRE staff. Our own Doug White was on hand helping because, well, he rocks! (cue air guitar). Together they grilled up delicious steaks, chicken, portobello mushrooms, onions, and pineapple. We baked up potatoes inside, while Mike Davidson shared his decadent smoked fish spread.

DCS-1

The steaks were outrageous!!!! The onions were so sweet!!! The grilled pineapple? Succulent candy!! I thoroughly encourage any one of you to sink your teeth into the features that are offered by a DCS outdoor grill that result in such deliciousness pictured here.

With their full surface super searing grill, grease management system, smoker box, infrared rotisserie, along with grilling and griddle accessory options, it’s no shock we all enjoyed some seriously soul satisfying food!!! This is one hot grill!! While our menu had hearty meats, veggies, and fruit, DCS grills can delicately handle fish as well. Yes! Yes! We have DCS grills here for you to see!!! Some of our staff own DCS grills and can first hand tell you how they use and love them. I’ve cooked on one myself. After the belly stuffing meal we enjoyed I can assure you this isn’t the first time I’ve had a fantastic feast on a DCS grill and it definitely won’t be the last!

Thank you so much, Turbo!!!

Awesome Griller Turbo with a Happy Me

In The Breeze…

Ventilation serves a great purpose in an active, creative kitchen. Are you the type of cook that takes cooking to another level with smoke, grilling, frying, griddle pans, searing, high heat, and generally put pots of passion into cooking? Is it safe to say on occasion you’re done cooking when your smoke alarms go off? Did you ever try searing a steak on an indoor grill pan only to have the recirculating range hood spit all the smoke back into the house creating a heavenly affect for arriving dinner guests? (Funny story, actually). Then my friend you are in need of quality ventilation.

Vent-A-Hood. Magic Lung. Have you heard of them? Probably not, because their Magic Lung series is so quiet you wouldn’t know they are on. Grease? The centrifugal force spins it right out of the air so it neatly lands into a grease tray that easily snaps on and off to clean.

Smoke? It is easily sucked out of the room without air resistance because they don’t use a baffle filter to catch grease. Noise? Noise is drastically reduced because, again, no baffle filter in their Magic Lung line. At 1200 cfm it only creates 6.6 sones. Heat? The capture area directs the heat directly to the “lung” so it is removed along with the smoke and grease. Clean? The motor is completely encased and therefore never collects grease to gunk it up, slow it down, or ruin it.Fire Safety? This may or may not be something you considered. The way a Vent-A-Hood is designed (without baffle filters that can collect grease), flames aren’t able to escape to a secondary source of combustion. All of this and a full 5 year warranty that covers parts and labor? It’s safe to say that one day I’ll own one and my smoky steak days will be in the breeze…

I sound like a broken record, but yes, this is on display live in our showroom so you can hear, see, and try out for yourself, the “magic” in this kitchen “lung”. See you soon!

DCS, ATK, Oh my!

DCSlogoDCS3

DCS by Fisher & Paykel has a quiet history since they don’t spend a ton of money on marketing; however, other well known names have used DCS in their lineups.  They began in 1988 in California when a commercial range was custom built for use in a residential application. Realizing they had a great product to offer to the masses they started selling their recipe for quality and function to companies such as Viking, Thermador, GE Monogram, and JennAir. Yup. You read that right. You didn’t even know you knew DCS, did you?DCSATK

DCS8

Last week I was whisked away to Boston, along with a crew of 9 equally appliance enthused (I’m not being sarcastic here, we love appliances that much!) sales reps from all over the USA, to take a few succulent bites into the world of DCS by Fisher & Paykel. To mix it up, we weren’t trained in a DCS facility, but in America’s Test Kitchen. ATK’s founder, Chris Kimball, has DCS in his personal kitchens, which prompted his natural choice of DCS appliances in ATK’s kitchens.

DCScrewREv

ATK’s home is tucked away in an old building in Boston complete with a maze of quirky turns, steps, food, and dining tables with a backdrop of old school, historic charm. We were graciously welcomed by ATK to cook, learn, laugh, and eat within their bustling cooking, testing, and tasting world. In this cozy setting we learned DCS is truly a powerhouse of quality, function, and is user friendly whether you’re a master chef, a weekend cooking warrior, or a 30 minute weeknight meal maker. Using ATK recipes, mouth watering, waist growing meals were created by us all while learning hands on just how fun and easy DCS is to use.

DCS19   DCS15

DCS18   DCS21

DCS1There’s something really remarkable about bonding over quality appliances and cooking with people that have an equivalent passion for appliances. DCS and ATK really set the table for a gracious, welcoming learning experience.

If you’re looking for meaty, commercial quality appliances without too many bells and whistles, DCS is the way to go. The DCS customer wants a tried and true, quality appliance with a minimal learning curve to get great results focused on highlighting the finished culinary masterpiece.

DCS12   DCS11

With professional ranges, commercial quality wall-ovens, precision cooktops, versatile dish drawers, searing outdoor grills, and a built-in line of refrigeration due out any minute, this is a line to consider if you want hard-working, solid appliances without a super premium price tag. We have their line on display, so please stop in. We’d love to get you fired up over them!

Catch the Wave

*** RANDOM BLOG WARNING ***

This is Aggressive Appliances related only to the extent that we have in-house Surfers.

Moving back to Florida has sparked in me a new zest for life. Surfing is at the top of my short list of new stuff to try. Fortunately, along with a hearty supply of knowledgeable appliance gurus, there are quite a few experienced surfers at Aggressive Appliances. One appliance-selling surfer has graciously offered to teach me how to surf (which might also be read as willing to watch me make a complete fool of myself….maybe?). I’m secure in my silliness, so game on!

JeffI’ve always loved balance and the ocean. The idea of being alone with the water, my thoughts, connecting in a solitary, profound way with nature, appeals a great deal to me. I’ve been warned about board burn and to have patience waiting for a good wave. We’ve discussed the worst things that could happen. I could knock myself unconscious with the board…..or….I could love it so much I’ll become an addict. Just in case I knock myself out I’ll have my medical insurance card on me. And what about sharks, guys?!?

Fast forward a couple of weeks…

I was caught up in watching others surf, playing in the waves sans board, and never did find my friend in the sea of people. I also lost a bit of my bravery watching the young kids on their boards. Maybe I’m just meant to watch and swim? Maybe shark bait isn’t my idea of a chance I want to take for right now. There’s no shame in that….But. Just in case. There is plenty of sunshine left as well as beach-worthy days if I should change my mind…
