Happy Saint Patrick’s Day !

St. Patrick’s Day occurs annually on March 17 in observance of the death of St. Patrick, the patron Saint of Ireland. What began as a religious feast day in the 17th century has evolved into a multitude of festivals across the globe celebrating Irish culture with parades, a variety of special foods, music, dancing, and a whole lot of green.

The team at Aggressive started celebrating a day early on Thursday with an amazing Irish inspired feast for lunch.   Cheryl Jaskot prepared a menu that included Corned Beef w/Potato Rolls,  Cabbage/Vegetable Soup, Guinness Cheese Spread, Irish Pub Salad and Car Bomb Cupcakes.

Cheryl cooked the Corned Beef with the seasoning packet included, coated it with approx. 1/3 c mustard and 1/2 c brown sugar, and braised them with a bottle of Guinness beer.  She baked them at 300 degrees for about 4 hrs, on Convection bake in our Jenn-Air and GE Monogram multi rack ovens.

The Car Bomb Cupcakes are everyone’s favorite…..how can you go wrong with dark chocolate cake w/Guinness, Irish Whiskey in the ganache filling, and Bailey’s Irish Cream in the frosting.   Click here for this recipe if you want to make them for yourself.

Another yummy recipe you may want to try is the Triple Threat Guinness-Cheese Spread….click here for the recipe.  We served it with chips, but it would be great with fresh veggies….we also used white KerryGold cheddar cheese.

The Big JFD

Candy3Sometimes I take a moment to check in on the National Food Holiday. This week I was most pleasantly surprised to find that today is NATIONAL JUNK FOOD DAY!!!! Who doesn’t love junk food? That guilty pleasure we all indulge in even though we know we shouldn’t. Or maybe we should? Life is short! Live a little! Everything in moderation is a good thing, even junk food.

Candy2

After brainstorming with some junk food junkies and compiling a few of my favorite ingredients, I threw together this salty, crunchy, sweet candy. It’s a holiday, after all, and candy is the ultimate junk food!

Candy1

So here’s my own recipe I literally crushed and threw together. While the picture above shows raisins, I nixed them and just went with cherries. You can pretty much do WHATEVER you want with this recipe and change up any part of it depending on your craving. So get creative, or stick to my recipe, and junk it up! I can tell you this….as is….it was a HUGE hit!!!!

Did somebody say cake?

CoffeeCake5So it happens that today is National Coffee Cake Day. Since we at Aggressive Appliances take our coffee and our cake seriously…I literally took a page out of Cheryl’s cookbook and decided to take a shot at making her coffee cake myself.CoffeeCake2

It’s late Tuesday night as I write this and after a fantastic day of spreading appliance joy to all my fellow appliance lovers I came home with ingredients, some ambition, and a pretty amazing recipe. Here are the ingredients (I forgot to include the salt in the pic, but my salt is forgiving).

CoffeeCake1

I’ve never attempted this recipe before but after seeing how easy it was to pull together this is going in my own recipe stash. My daughter and I didn’t care that there were raw eggs in the batter. We were licking the spoons, forks, and bowl, all the while moaning over….HOLY COW THAT’S GOOD BATTER. We survived, however, the batter covered bowls and utensils didn’t stand a chance.

I digress.

CoffeeCake3

This is a “put it in your fridge overnight” recipe. I had full intentions of bringing it into work tomorrow to bake there, but after tasting the batter there is NO way my daughter is letting it out of the house without baking it here and having some for breakfast tomorrow morning. I’ll bring the leftovers in to work. Depends how much we annihilate it tomorrow morning. HA! LEFTOVERS!?! YEAH RIGHT…who am I kidding? Here it is fresh out of the oven…

CoffeeCake6

So here it is folks, the coffee cake recipe that resulted in it disappearing as fast as it was put out….

Garlic as a Fruit

Pysanky-1With Easter just over a week away I’m transported back to memories of my Ukrainian grandmother, Anna. It was a cherished holiday for her as it is for many. She was born and raised in the Ukraine. She worked hard in the fields and would often tell me stories of her difficult, funny, and interesting life. Food was always involved and so was card playing.

Pysanky-4

She had great love and pride for her children, her family, her garden, her pierogies, and prayed over her bible so much it was worn thin from turning the pages filled with prayer cards from lost loved ones. She taught me the art of egg decorating, babka tasting, how to knead dough for pierogies, gave me my love of fresh horseradish and beets, not to leave out the importance of raw garlic. She considered raw garlic a fruit and ate it as such. Yup, just like an apple.

Pysanky-2

She didn’t have a grand kitchen, but she did have a grand soul that filled her kitchen and the hearts of anyone she knew. On her small stove she fried her pierogies with copious amounts of butter and onions, baked her Easter breads, and boiled the eggs we intricately decorated with beeswax and deep colored dyes. You may never have met my sweet Babchi, but if you like trying new things, click on the pictures within this blog and find out how to make your own Ukrainian Easter eggs (pysanky) or make a babka with this recipe given to me by my cousin Laura Stasiuk.

LaurasBabkaBabchi was one of many that taught me the value of family, traditions, and doing things together.  Many summers were spent watching her roll out dough for her endless supply of pierogies on her kitchen table, while talking, laughing, singing, and dancing. She taught me to find joy in simple pleasures like feeling the earth under my feet, the smell of fresh mint rubbed between fingers, or growing and drying fresh grown chamomile flowers for tea. She taught me how to appreciate all the gifts in life, big and tiny.

Enjoy your families now and always.  And to all of you….ya tebe lyublyu (я тебе люблю) which means….”I love you” in Ukrainian. I wish you all a “Babchi” in your life. Photo credits to my dear Aunt Gloria McNamara, Anna’s daughter.

Brown Bagging It

brownbagIn a day and age when fast food is EVERYWHERE, what is a person to do when they want quick, satisfying meals for lunch? Today is National “Pack Your Lunch Day” so to pay homage to it here are a few suggestions to get your creative juices flowing and help you come up with delicious ways to pack a quick, tasty, healthy, and easy lunch.Avocado

Avocados are popping up in so many recipes I see online. They are easy to find, easy to carry, and packed full of nutrients. Who doesn’t love the sound of “good fat”? Slice them and put them on a turkey sandwich, cube them and put them in a tomato salad, or mash them up with a hard boiled egg and make a creamy egg salad to smear on your favorite artisan bread.  Eggs

Speaking of eggs, they are another staple for a grab-and-go lunch. Hard boiled eggs are a great way to eat breakfast or lunch on the run. Packed with protein, they will also keep hunger at bay for a good stretch of time. Carrots and hummus, snow peas and salads, crackers and cheese, cut up leftover meat from last night’s dinner, cheese sticks, peanut butter, yogurt, clementine oranges, and olives are all great additions to a brown bag lunch. Heck, any fruit or vegetable can be easily added to your meal. It does take more planning and some thoughtful time to get enough quick things together to bring lunch, but your taste buds, mind, body, health, and bank account will thank you!PotSalPic

Here is a modified version of a recipe my mom used to make as a quick dinner that I now use for lunch because I like it so much! It is filling, delicious, and easy to grab and make if you have access to a microwave where you happen to be lunching. This can also be made ahead and brought in a container. I made my recipe pictured above with a steamed bag of whole green beans instead of the canned beans in my recipe below. It’s so, so good!!! Please leave some of your favorite grab-and-go ideas in the comments below for others to try. We could all use delicious, healthy options for lunch. Happy brown-bagging it! ChrissyWarmPotRecipe

Let Love In

Valentine2015With Valentine’s Day just a few days away I started thinking about all the goodies and ideas that go along with the holiday associated with love and sweets. Loved ones, chocolate, hearts, flowers, fruits, and delectable meals, spring to my mind. I like to think of Valentine’s Day as a special day set aside to focus on all the people you love and take time to celebrate that love with them! What better place to start than the heart of your home….the kitchen.ValentineCookies

Fresh sugar cookies, convection baked in an oven, decorated with icing and sprinkles….may be the perfect way to say “I love you” to your parents, your kids, your love, your neighbor, your best friend, or……yourself! Or what about…slowly melting decadent chocolate over a simmer flame on a gas range-top or induction cooktop only to dip fresh strawberries, bananas, pound cake, or pineapples right into it…..together? What could be more loving than creating these things with someone you love? The best dishes are made when joy is one of the ingredients.ValentineEgg

Here’s a recipe that I came up with one day at home. It’s quick, easy, and usually disappears in minutes. It’s a great way to get everyone involved of all ages, since little or big hands are comfortable with throwing these ingredients together. Start your Valentine’s Day with a pizza pie made with and for the people you love this Sunday morning. While you’re at it, pair it with some chocolate dipped fruits and sugar cookies! Happy Valentine’s Day appliance fans!ChrissyBreakfastPizza

Soup2015-1DCS-11TG2015-2

We know all about “new” at Aggressive because there’s always something “new” going on. 2016 appears to be unchanging in that there’s more change on the horizon of this new year.

So 2016…..BRING IT!!!

‘Twas the night before Christmas…

Christmas2015-4‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through Aggressive

Not a spatula was stirring, not even the KitchenAid mixer.

The appliances would soon be shut off by their switches with care

With hopes that we left nothing on, we wouldn’t dare! Christmas2015-6

The install and delivery team would soon be snug in their beds,

While visions of keg-o-rators would dance in their heads.

And Cheryl in her apron, and Jerry on his PC,

Were checking the skies for Santa’s flight plan over various seas.

Christmas2015-5

When out in the parking lot there arose such a clatter,

Tina sprang from her desk to see what was the matter.

Away to the doors we both flew with a flash

And sure enough the car dealership truck was blocking our path! Christmas2015

The accounting and purchasing departments were busy with money,

Making jokes as they worked because they’re so punny.

Sales reps discussed various brand features with zest,

While service reps and techs did their best with “Please get me in before Christmas!” Christmas2015-2

Our warehouse was bustling with last minute orders.

While Jeff put out fires and took care of disorder.

It had been a great year with many gifts to behold,

Many deliveries, installations, repairs, many appliances sold!
ChristmasAny new showroom renovation or more showroom events,

Would just have to wait until the New Year commenced.

And I thought I heard Jerry exclaim as he drove out of the parking lot that night,

“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a Good-Night!”

Merry Christmas Foodie Baby

ChristmasIt is 15 days until Christmas and you know there is that one person on your list you just have no clue what to get because they HAVE EVERYTHING. We have something they don’t. And we stock ’em. And they won’t break your budget. And…well…WOLF! Wolf introduced Wolf Gourmet this year featuring countertop appliances, cookware, and cutlery!!! With prices ranging from $299.95-$999.95 you know you want to take a peek.

WolfGourmetLogo2

Wolf is well known for their outstanding cooking products, but they also have an amazing gourmet kitchen small product line. These products are offered as promotional gifts when purchasing a whole kitchen full of Wolf and Subzero….BUT…you can buy them, too! If you don’t buy a kitchen full of awesome appliances you can purchase their sweet suite of goodies as gifts or keep them for yourself!

I’m going to focus on one of my favorites…..their blender. At $599.95 you have more than a “blender” here. You have a meal maker! And look at that red knob, signature Wolf design. You can buy a black or stainless knob, too, if you want to change it up.

WolfBlender2

This blender makes smoothies, soups, sauces, and anything else you can think of to throw in a blender. With a 64 ounce capacity and the ability to create a meal in one container, how can you go wrong? Here’s a quick recipe from Bob Luyckx, our Wolf rep, that he created on the fly…for hot, fresh apple cider.

WolfCider

“I used one half of Gala apple and one half envy apple. After cutting each in half I cord them and sliced them into three or four slices lengthwise. Add one bottle of water ( or 2 cups). I added liquid sugar in the raw as a sweetener however you could substitute agave or honey.  I used about a tablespoon and one half, but you can sweeten to taste. Sprinkled some ground cinnamon into the carafe. Put the blender on it’s soup function or mode and in 5 1/2 minutes I had piping hot fresh apple cider at about 140°.”

How great is this?!? Thanks Bob!

At $499.95, the countertop convection oven is another favorite of mine, however, we have the whole gourmet product line here (pictured below) that we’d be happy to show you since we have them displayed and ready to come home for Christmas.

Stop in and do your last minute Christmas shopping with Aggressive!
