“Is there anything that I can do to get my appliances ready for a hurricane?”

Fear not, APPLIANCE BOY is here to help.

While some might view this as a ridiculous question, there are several things that you can do regarding your appliances to help or at least minimize headaches after the fact.

hurricane

Water: I will start by saying that water is not good for electronics. Hopefully water intrusion won’t be a major issue for most people in Central Florida, but it might be for our friends and family closer to the coast. If you think you will be facing a major threat of flooding, unplug the appliance or flip the breaker to it. Do not turn it back on until you are reasonably sure that any electrical components are dried out. (Think of a cell phone)

Power surges: These are a higher likelihood for many of us as lightning increases in proximity to the storm. If you do not have surge protectors or are worried about some of the complicated electronics in your appliances, it is not a bad idea to unplug them or flip the breakers to those units. If they are built-in appliances and you don’t have access to the plugs, flip the breakers.

What if you lose power? Do not panic, your refrigerator can work like a large Igloo ™ cooler. Keep in mind however, that anytime you open it with no power you will be letting cold air out and it will begin warming up. Frozen foods and ice will begin to melt. When the ice melts it will probably start to leak out of your freezer onto your floor. Remove the ice bucket and use it in your cooler to help keep those foods cool. To prep for the storm put as many bottles of water into your freezer as possible so that you have a higher ice load to maintain the cold. Remember that water expands when it freezes so drain a little off before you put them in. If you lose power you can move some of these to the refrigerator compartment to help keep it cold. It is also a good idea to go ahead and set your refrigerator and freezer to their coldest temperatures.

Emergency Service: We will not have emergency service available during the storm and it will likely not be available again until Saturday.

As always, you can send a message to service@aggressiveappliances.com.

Keep the Magic Alive

In January 2015, every Thursday around 8:15am, I began email blasting this blog with the help and input from my fellow appliance geeks here at Aggressive. During that time we’ve shared appliance adventures, food pictures, appliance glam shots, reviews, recipes, stories, and food holidays….and I’ve loved every minute of it even if my un-subscribers didn’t…..(that must have been an accident, right?!?!?!).

Now the time has arrived to pass the torch on to the next Editor. As of Friday I am moving into a new position with a major appliance manufacturer (for fairness sake will remain un-named). Maybe I’ll ghost write? Maybe Jerry will take over with appliance or non-appliance words of wisdom? Or maybe a new Editor and writer will take over and make your appliance world shine even brighter?

I do know this much….it’s been my pleasure to open up the appliance world to you during this time and ignite some spark of magic into your kitchen imaginings. Your kind thoughts, visits, encouragement, and cookies (Thank you to the Surprenants!) have been so greatly appreciated.

It has been so much fun giving you reasons to get excited about appliances because after all….they are the heart of our homes. I will still be calling on Aggressive as a rep. I hope to still see you in my travels. This is THE greatest appliance location in Orlando.

From my appliance home to yours……preserving, cooking, and washing up…..Keep the magic alive!

Some Things Are Meant to Be

Wolf Angle ShotPeanut butter and chocolate. Warm milk and honey. Salt and pepper. Strawberries and cream. Bread and butter. Macaroni and cheese. Biscuits and gravy. Shrimp and grits. Fish and chips. Some things are just meant to be together. And it’s clear that Wolf understands that since introducing their induction ranges.

Wolf Pro Induction Range rev

Induction is the fastest, most responsive way to cook. It is super easy to keep clean, is safe, and efficient. Who needs added heat in the kitchen? We don’t. None of us do, especially not in Florida. You can keep your cool with this range surface. Wolf ovens offer dual convection fans, 10 cooking modes, a temperature probe that alerts you when your food reaches temp, and multi-rack configuration convenience. Choose your knob color to make it your own, in black, stainless, or their signature red. Having a pop-out control panel keeps the sleek appearance when not in use, but allows for easy reading when using the oven timer and light since it faces up.Wolf Pro Induction Range 3rev

There are two styles to choose from, transitional and professional, in both 30″ and 36″. MSRP starts at $6695, with the 36″ professional model topping out at $9350. We have the 36″ professional induction range on our floor if you are ready to jump into the best of both worlds, Induction and Wolf. Some things are meant to be.
